    ESTJ (8w9)

Lou Grant personality type is ESTJ, or "the Commander."

He's direct, blunt, and sometimes even combative. He's not afraid to call out his opponents or opponents' opponents. He's good at the politics, but the politics are secondary to him. His primary drive is to make things better, to exercise control, and to keep things moving forward.

The ESTJ is often the first to try out new systems. He's the first to put his hand up for the first opportunity to do something new. And he wants credit for it. He wants to be known as the one who made that change happen. He doesn't like to be the lowest-ranking person in the organization, and he doesn't like to be just a cog in a wheel. He wants to be a wheel himself, and he wants to be the one that everyone else reports to.

ESTJs are very practical people. They're not interested in theory or philosophy, they're only interested in making things work. They're good at doing things with their hands, and they understand how things work, and how they can be improved. They look at a problem and they figure out how to fix it.

Lou Grant is a fictional character played by Ed Asner in two television series produced by MTM Enterprises for CBS. The first was The Mary Tyler Moore Show, a half-hour light-hearted situation comedy in which the character was the news director at fictional television station WJM-TV in Minneapolis. A spinoff series, entitled Lou Grant, was an hour-long serious dramatic series that frequently engaged in social commentary, featuring the same character as city editor of the fictional Los Angeles Tribune. Although spin-offs are common on American television, Lou Grant remains one of a very few characters played by the same actor to have a leading role on both a popular comedy and a popular dramatic series.
