The archetype of the INTP is the scientist. They are usually people who are very good at understanding how things work and how to improve them; they are curious and seek to solve problems. They are usually people who are heavily involved in their research for a long time, possibly even being mentored by other people. Isaac Asimov was a famous INTP and he created the fictional "Laws of Robotics" in his book "I, Robot". INTPs do not like to be micro-managed, and will tend to ignore instructions if they are not valuable to their research. Because they are so focused on their work, they may often seem unfriendly and aloof.
The INTP's tendency to question everything and to question all ideas may have been influenced by their interest in science. This means that they do not like to be told what to do and they often do not communicate clearly, due to their dislike of being told what to do or being told how to do it. They are good at finding the best solution themselves; if their mentor did not tell them what to do, then they would probably figure it out for themselves.
