    The Nervous System

Our nervous system is like an electrical circuit, and the brain is like the power supply. The brain is essentially a computer, and has circuits that allow us to recognize patterns. We also use the brain to create new patterns. To illustrate this, consider the following situation:

A person living in a city has not seen a prairie dog before. He approaches one and points at it and says: “I’ve never seen one like that before.” We are familiar with the term “pattern recognition” because this is how our brains are wired to identify objects. When we see something that does not fit into our normal pattern of recognition, our brains are stimulated to create a new pattern. We are then able to relate what we have just seen to what we have already seen.

This is one aspect of how the brain functions. We are also familiar with the term “pattern creation” because this is how our brains are wired to create something out of thin air. Again, when we encounter something that does not fit into our normal pattern of creation, our brains are stimulated to create a new pattern.
