He was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Vlad III Dracula ( Romanian: Vlad Ceausescu) was a notorious Romanian tyrant who ruled Wallachia and parts of Moldavia as the voivode from 1448 to 1456. Vlad III, also known as Vlad Ţepeş, was a Transylvanian Saxon Prince and Prince of Wallachia, who became ruler of most of the territory of the former province of Muntenia (now part of Romania). His rule lasted from 1448 to 1462, during which time he consolidated his power through authoritarian government and alliance with the Ottoman Empire. His reputation as a ruler, particularly in Eastern Europe, is legendary.
