The Hulk was one of the most popular Marvel comics of the early 1970s, and Rafferty took over the series from Stan Lee, who wrote the original stories. Rafferty wrote 72 issues of The Incredible Hulk, which were hugely successful, but it was his run on Iron Fist that made Rafferty one of the most successful comic book writers in history.
The Iron Fist monthly comic ran for 65 issues, ending in 1986. It featured the character Danny Rand and his quest to prove himself as the titular Iron Fist after being ripped from his home in the Himalayas to New York City by a villain seeking to take over the world. In between, he met and fought the Green Hornet, had a torrid affair with a female superhero from another planet, and tried to stop a scientist who was trying to build an army of robots.
