Ivar personality type is ESTJ, or, in simpler terms, "the guy who makes the world a better place." In the novel, the hero is a mature, experienced Ivar who is a just and fair leader. He is a white knight who loves his country and the people in it, but he is also a man of conscience and a righteous leader. He, in a way, is the moral center in the story. He stands for what is right in his country and throughout all of Scandinavia. This makes him a hero to his people and those he fights for. But he is also realistic. He understands that those around him are not as moral as he is and will make mistakes as well as do good. He understands that he must be able to let go of those around him. He knows that he cannot be there to stop everyone from making mistakes, much as he would like to be. This makes him a much more real character than would be a typical white knight character.
Other characters in the novel include two other Ivar's, a man who has been an Ivar much longer than the main Ivar and who has been trained by the main Ivar, and a young Ivar who is still learning from his father.
