The most famous and widely referenced personality type in the history of computing is the INTP. The naming of the type came from a 1964 paper by Carl Jung entitled Psychological Types, which used the letters of the Greek alphabet to refer to each of the sixteen different types of personality. However, despite the name, it's not clear that Jung had any real understanding of personality type whatsoever, and his descriptions of each type would have been better described as a collection of ideas and observations rather than a clear set of rules.
Jung's work did serve a purpose, however, in that it gave a name to a group of people who a) were a minority in Jung's day, and b) were a minority in pretty much every other society on the planet. The INTP personality was only around 4% of the population, and since it was a minority it was also an under-represented minority. As a result, it's not surprising that the name INTP became a byword for some of the most brilliant minds in the field of computing and IT.
