In the anime, she is shown to be very close to her father and the two often argue. However, she does have a bond with him as she was the one who got him to go to school for the first time and to stop drinking. She also cared for him when he was drunk and tried to stop him from driving with her father in the car. She is shown to respect her father greatly as shown in the Christmas Special when she says that she will do anything for him and even calls him "Dad" when he asked her to. Her mother is rarely seen but when she is, it is shown that she and her father argue constantly, which often causes Kanae to interrupt them and tell them to stop yelling. The only thing that they both agree on is that they want their daughter to be happy. Kanae also cares for her mother as seen in the Christmas Special when she was trying to help her mother with dinner and was seen crying on her shoulder because of it.
