The Vienna Circle, or Wiener Kreis, is a group of scholars and philosophers[1] that operated in Vienna from 1923[1] - but officially 1929 under the name of the Ernst-Mach Society[2] - until the assassination of its leader, Moritz Schlick, on June 22, 1936, after which the club disbanded. The Circle existed informally even before the First World War. Ludwig Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1921) was one of the texts from this period that served as the "Bible" of Viennese thought[3].
