As a child, Wilden's family moved around a lot and he has never held a job for very long. His brother died when Wilden was 11 and his father committed suicide when he was 15. He had an unstable relationship with his father and was unable to cope with his death and came to believe that his father's death was his fault. This led to behavioral problems throughout his teenage years which were compounded by his inability to fit in with other people.
Wilden is obsessed with forensics, especially the human body and its secrets. He is sometimes portrayed as cold and analytical, but he is really a deeply emotional person who thinks deeply about death. He has a fascination with crime and has spent much of his adult life analyzing and solving it.
