    Baron Paul Henri Thiry d'Holbach (Edesheim, 8 December 1723 - Paris, 21 February 1789), was a German-born German philosopher, encyclopedist, translator and science writer.

    He was the author, under the pseudonym of Jean-Baptiste Mirabaud, of the System of Nature and other philosophical works.

    Materialist and atheist, d'Holbach was a collaborator of the Encyclopédie of Diderot and d'Alembert, he was a leading figure of the European radical Enlightenment.
