Katai Tayama personality type is INTP, and thus, like most of us, he is a logical thinker who is inimical to the mysteries and woo-woo.
So I was surprised to read this passage from his book, which I discovered via this NY Times review of his book:
"Logic alone is not enough. Logic must be married to intuition." (p. 46)
"Intuition is my most important tool." (p. 65)
"I do not make a habit of writing about my experiences. I do not want to take away from the mystery." (p. 127)
He's making the same argument for why he didn't write about his experiences as he does for why he doesn't talk about his discoveries, and the same argument for why he only writes about his discoveries in his journal and never in his books. "I do not want to take away from the mystery." But he's clearly taking away from the mystery. He's taking away from the mystery by revealing it to everyone, including those who don't want it revealed.
So I decided to check out his blog, which as far as I can tell is the only place where he writes freely about his beliefs.
Katai Tayama was a Japanese author. His most famous works include Inaka Kyōshi and Futon. He is noted for establishing the Japanese literary genre of naturalistic I novels which revolve around the detailed self-examinations of an introspective author. He also wrote about his experiences in the Russo-Japanese War.
