Petr Bakalář was born on 22nd July, 1966 in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). He is one of five children born to parents Josef and Marie Bakalář. Petr's father was a professor at Charles University (now Czech University), while his mother worked as an accountant for the Ministry of Defense.
Petr started his artistic career at a very young age, becoming a professional graffiti artist under the name 'Rekon' by the time he was 15. At 18 he became a member of a dance crew called 'Rekon-Dance', which would go on to become a leading name in Czech hip hop. In 1986 he formed a short lived band called 'Pepa', which were signed to the record label 'Swingin' Records'. In 1987 he formed a band called 'Bakalář' with his brother Jindřich and friend Oldřich Vrchlický.
