Clifford Stoll personality type is ENTP, which is why he's written so many books about computer hacking. He has, in fact, written at least three different books about hackers, including his latest, HARDWARE: How Hackers Get into Our Heads and What We Can Do About It, published in October. It's part memoir, part history of computers and hacking, and part manifesto about how society should be structured to accommodate the hacker mind. The book is the "anti-book" for people who don't like books; it's a lot faster to read than most nonfiction. (Stoll also wrote the excellent PC Guide in 1998.)
A few weeks ago, I spoke to Stoll on Skype. He was in the middle of a weeklong trip to Ireland with his family, and he was getting ready to fly home to California for Christmas; his voice was a bit hoarse from talking on the phone. We talked about how he got into computers, why he writes about hacking, and whether he thinks there's a distinction between the "hacker" and the "cracker."

Clifford Stoll: My first computer was a Commodore 64.
Clifford Paul "Cliff" Stoll (born June 4, 1950) is an American astronomer, author and teacher. He is best known for his investigation in 1986, while working as a systems administrator at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, that led to the capture of hacker Markus Hess, and for Stoll's subsequent book The Cuckoo's Egg, in which he details the investigation. Stoll has written three books, articles in the non-specialist press (e.g., in Scientific American on the Curta mechanical calculator and the slide rule), and is a frequent contributor to the mathematics YouTube channel Numberphile.
