    Fulton's ego got him into trouble. He was arrested in 1810 for not paying his taxes. He was also arrested for having spent money on prostitutes.

    Fulton did have some legitimate business ideas. He made money from promoting the manufacture of iron in small quantities. He also invented the first cash register.

    Fulton's greatest business success was in 1815 when he bought the patents of Thomas Curtis for $3,000 and then sold them for $1,000,000.
