Gaius Sempronius Gracchus was a Roman Popularis politician in the 2nd century BC and brother of the reformer Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus. After his brother was murdered while serving as consular tribune, he became consular tribune and sought to bring about similar reform to his late brother and give Roman citizenship to all Italians. After he failed to get reelected, the Senate passed a senatus consultorum, giving the new consular tribune Opimius the authority to do whatever he wanted, and he sent several thousand soldiers to attack Gaius's supporters. Gaius asked his slave to kill him so that he would not die at the senate's hands.
