    Coatlicue is a goddess of life, death, and regeneration. She is the virgin mother of the sun, the moon, and the stars. She is also known as the Mother of the Gods. Coatlicue was considered to be the mother of all of the gods, including the Aztec gods Tezcatlipoca, Xipe Totec, Ome Tochtli, Quetzalcoatl, Xolotl, Tepeyollotl, and Tlaloc. She is also considered to be the “Mother of the People” and the “Mother of All Flowers.” Coatlicue was said to have ruled over the land directly before and after the creation of the universe.

    The Aztecs believed that Coatlicue was a woman who was pregnant with all of the gods by her father, the Sun. She gave birth to Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl, who were said to be twins.

    Coatlicue (Classical Nahualt: ''skirt of serpents'') is the Aztec goddess who gave birth to the moon, stars, and Huitzilopochtli, the god of the sun and war. The goddesses Toci “our grandmother” and Cihuacoatl “snake woman”, the patron of women who die in childbirth, were also seen as aspects of Coatlicue.
