This is all very true. As I said, Walter isn't an ISTJ, but his description of the position fits the ISTJ quite nicely. I also remember that Walter has to be vigilant about protocol, and nobody (except maybe Sherlock Holmes) can break it. His ability to make sure things are done the right way is, if not an ISTJ trait, certainly an ISTJ trait.
And this is one reason why I really like Walter. Because he's not only observant, but he's also willing to do something about anything that goes wrong. I don't think he'd be able to do this if he was just another ISTJ, but I think that the pairing of an ISTJ with Sherlock's other traits could be absolutely wonderful!
Saint Walter of Pontoise was a French saint of the eleventh century. Born at Andainville, he was a professor of philosophy and rhetoric before becoming a Benedictine monk at Rebais (diocese of Meaux). A story told of him is that while a novice, Walter took pity on an inmate at the monastery prison, and helped the prisoner to escape. he campaigned against the abuses and corruptions of his fellow Benedictines, and was beaten and imprisoned. He resumed his work after being released.
