Afrikaans personality type is ESTJ, or “the dominator”. They are the most common type in South Africa, and they are dominating the local scene.

Most of the dads I know have a strong “E” in their personality type, so I can see why they would be so protective of their kids.

My husband’s personality type is ENTJ or “the organizer”, so I can understand why he is so structured and disciplined.

The one thing that I find strange about this is that it is a relatively new phenomenon. In the past, South Africans didn’t have a strong career focus, and were more focused on family and social life.

I don’t think that I have ever met a South African man who had a strong career focus. Sure, there are businessmen, but they are all driven by money. I have never met a husband who is driven by making money.

So why are men now choosing to have kids at a time when career paths are being closed?

I have also noticed that this trend has spread to South Africa’s women, but not to the same extent as it has to men.

Afrikaans is a West Germanic language spoken in South Africa, Namibia and, to a lesser extent, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It evolved from the Dutch vernacular of Holland spoken by the European settlers and their slaves in South Africa, where it gradually began to develop distinguishing characteristics in the course of the 18th century. It is considered to be a developed creole language. Afrikaans linguistics researchers maintain that Afrikaans, originally being a peasant language, is only partially creole. Although Afrikaans has adopted words from other languages, including German and the Khoisan languages, an estimated 90 to 95% of the vocabulary of Afrikaans is of Dutch origin. Therefore, differences with Dutch often lie in the more analytic-type morphology and grammar of Afrikaans, and a spelling that expresses Afrikaans pronunciation rather than standard Dutch. There is a large degree of mutual intelligibility between the two languages, especially in written form.
