Pitohui personality type is INTP, or Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving. This means that the Pitohui is an INTP (although it is possible for an INTP to be a Pitohui). It also means that the Pitohui has an extraverted intuition, or extraverted thinking type. INTPs are not known to be extraverts in general, but there are exceptions.
As can be seen in the list above, the Pitohui personality type is interested in the self, imagination, and spirituality, in addition to being interested in science, art, mathematics, and physical space. This differs from the normal INTP personality in that the Pitohui is much more sensitive to emotion and does display much more concern for the well-being of others. For example, when shown a strong photograph, it will often cry at the moment of impact.
Pitohui personality type tends to be more artistic than normal INTP personality types. Many have a particular interest in dance, music, or writing. They are often the type of INTP that writes poetry or writes novels. They can also be very intelligent, but do not tend to be as well-rounded in their overall knowledge as many other types.
The pitohuis are bird species endemic to New Guinea. The onomatopoeic name is thought to be derived from that used by New Guineans from nearby Dorey, but it is also used as the name of a genus Pitohui which was established by the French naturalist René Lesson in 1831. The unitalicized common name however refers to perching birds that belong to several genera of multiple bird families. The genera include Ornorectes, Melanorectes, and Pseudorectes apart from Pitohui.
