Joe personality type is ESTJ, which I’ve talked about previously. As I’ve mentioned, their primary function is Extraverted Thinking, which corresponds to the dominant function. ESFJs are Introverted Sensors, which corresponds to auxiliary functions. They are very capable of using Ni or Se, but I suspect that the “extraverted” part of this type has something to do with Ni. If this is the case, the ESFJs’ Auxiliary (Se) would be used to give them a feeling of extra security. The Ni-related part of the ESFJ’s personality would make them more aware of their internal world, and thus experience Ni as external reality. The ESFJs’ Se is used to comfort them and give them a feeling of safety.
I suspect that the reason why I’ve had many ESFJs in my life is that they are very good at picking up on people’s needs. I think that this is also part of what makes them so great at being people’s therapists. They are very good at making sure people feel safe and at making sure people feel understood. They are very good at being very empathic.
