(A quick note: I don’t claim to be an expert on the ISTP personality type. I’m not a therapist or a psychologist, nor do I claim to have read all of the books written on this topic. In fact, one day I might write a blog post on whether ISTP personalities make the best writers—which is a topic that has been covered extensively in other blogs, and I’ll leave that for another day.)
But one thing that I am fairly good at is checking my own perceptions against the objective facts. And for a while, I’ve had a nagging sense that I was a bit too ISTP-oriented in my writing. When I asked myself whether my writing was ISTP-oriented, I realized that this wasn’t just a matter of subjective impressions—there was objective evidence to support the hypothesis.

In order to answer this question, I did some research into the origins of the ISTP personality type. The usual explanations for ISTP-ness have to do with introversion and sensing, among other things.
