    Jonathan "John" House
    ESTJ

    ESTJ (1w9)

Jonathan "John" House personality type is ESTJ, with a dominant Introverted Thinking (Te) and auxiliary Extraverted Sensing (Se). Therefore, he prefers to think things through before acting. He understands that people's feelings and motives are different from his own, and that he has to give people the benefit of the doubt. He is patient and can usually explain concepts to others. He is a good listener and is good at motivating others. He usually keeps his emotions to himself and does not discuss them unless he has to. He is not a warm person and tends to be reserved, even with his close friends.

When he is in this type of mood, John will become irritable and may become impatient with those around him. He may become angry if he is frustrated. He may become sarcastic with those he feels are trying to take advantage of him or those who are not as open-minded as he is. This is also sometimes how John carries himself with those he feels are trying to take advantage of him. If this happens, he will try to come up with the best possible solution and he will not look for an argument.

He has a tendency to make decisions on impulse, rather than closely reviewing all the facts and consulting those around him.

Jonathan "John" House was Gregory House's father. He was portrayed by the late R. Lee Ermey in "Daddy's Boy." He died in "Birthmarks." John was a pilot in the United States Marine Corps. He was on active duty while House was growing up and, as a result, the family moved around a lot. It is implied that Gregory was very close to his mother as a result, but had few other friends and limited contact with his father. John had what his son described as an "insane moral compass" – he always said what was on his mind and never lied to anyone. He is the antithesis of Gregory's credo "everybody lies." It is implied that this meant that John rarely bent the truth in order to comfort his son, and usually found fault with what Gregory did despite his usually excellent academic accomplishments. It is clear Gregory feared his father's punishments, that those punishments were doled out for even minor offenses, and that they were far better suited to Marine recruits rather than a talented young boy.
