Given her recent experience, it’s not surprising that she would lean toward a group of political outsiders looking to shake things up. But she's not the only one.

Sarah Palin (who advised the campaign on foreign policy during the primary), retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson (who has said he is considering running) and even Donald Trump himself (who recently urged the Republican Party to “stop wasting their time on bullshit”).
But they aren’t the only ones who fit the bill. As the Times notes, many of the most successful newcomers in American politics have also fit this mold.
