The Tardis as a whole was a very important part of the show as it was the source of the Doctor's time travelling. It was also a very important part of the character of the Doctor himself as it was where he always seemed to be on the move.
It also seems to have a mind of its own as it appears to have a personality of its own.
The Master seemed to be a villain who didn't have a direct goal or a plan. He just seemed to want to cause trouble and cause destruction. He seemed like that because he was not really evil, he just made most of his plans into that way. He was also jealous of the Doctor and wanted to take over the universe.
