Northrop Frye personality type is INTP, and I am not. That hardly means we cannot be friends, and I am sure we can find a way.
A few weeks ago, my friend Alanna contacted me and asked me to write an article on her blog about relationships and Myers Briggs. I am very flattered she asked, and am glad to do so. But I am also a bit confused. It’s pretty clear what she wants, and I think it’s a reasonable, if somewhat idealistic request:
I’m interested in writing an article that will help people understand relationships and Myers Briggs better and/or get to know other MBers better. As a Myers Briggs consultant, it’s my job to help people understand themselves and their relationships within their types. Of course, I also help people understand relationships and their types outside of Myers Briggs.
I get that. It’s one of the things I love about this community: people get outside of the Myers Briggs box and try to understand themselves and others. But I am not sure what she means by “relationships and Myers Briggs.
Herman Northrop Frye CC FRSC (July 14, 1912 – January 23, 1991) was a Canadian literary critic and literary theorist, considered one of the most influential of the 20th century. Frye gained international fame with his first book, Fearful Symmetry (1947), which led to the reinterpretation of the poetry of William Blake. His lasting reputation rests principally on the theory of literary criticism that he developed in Anatomy of Criticism (1957), one of the most important works of literary theory published in the twentieth century. The American critic Harold Bloom commented at the time of its publication that Anatomy established Frye as "the foremost living student of Western literature. "Frye's contributions to cultural and social criticism spanned a long career during which he earned widespread recognition and received many honours.
