J. D. Salinger personality type is INTP, which is the same as mine.
I think my INTP personality type is very similar to J.D. Salinger’s. I always found Salinger’s writing to be fairly simple, straightforward, and realistic, though I felt he was able to hit the emotion of a situation with ease. However, I didn’t feel like his writing was over-simplified.
He wasn’t afraid to criticize people’s actions, but it seemed like he did it in an unemotional way that was also fairly unreadable. I don’t know if that’s just my opinion, but it seemed like his writing was fairly unemotional, which allowed for his stories to be fairly unemotional as well.
I don’t know if that makes me a J.D. Salinger fanboy or a critic, but I think it’s interesting that he thought up an INTP while going through a period where he wasn’t writing anything.
Jerome David Salinger was an American writer best known for his 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye. Before its publication, Salinger published several short stories in Story magazine and served in World War II. In 1948, his critically acclaimed story "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" appeared in The New Yorker, which published much of his later work. The Catcher in the Rye was an immediate popular success. Salinger's depiction of adolescent alienation and loss of innocence in the protagonist Holden Caulfield was influential, especially among adolescent readers. The novel was widely read and controversial, and its success led to public attention and scrutiny. Salinger became reclusive, publishing less frequently. He followed Catcher with a short story collection, Nine Stories; Franny and Zooey, a volume containing a novella and a short story; and a volume containing two novellas, Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction.
