Background
During his time in the Academy, Gaara was a very shy and timid individual, who was bullied by others for his physical appearance, and because he was so withdrawn from the world, he never participated in any of the activities. He was also a poor student academically and a slacker, who did not pay attention to his studies. That said, Gaara did develop a strong will and desire to become stronger, which would eventually lead him to eventually become one of the most powerful shinobi in the village. In his childhood, Gaara also had a strong fear of snakes; his father's siblings were killed by a snake, and Gaara's older brother, Temari, was also killed by a snake when he was around the same age as Gaara was when she was killed.
During his time in the Academy, three ninja who were the leaders of the class in their respective areas of expertise visited to train with Gaara. They were Kankurō (Fire Release), Temari (Earth Release), and Kiba (Fūinjutsu).
