The Doctor and his friends travel through time, but according to the Doctor this is impossible because time is only a construct of the human mind. However, on a very distant planet, a tribe of people believe that time is real and that the Doctor is the future savior of the universe. According to the Doctor, humanity only believes that time passes because it’s convenient. He compares it to a river. All of the water in the river that flows into the ocean will eventually evaporate into nothingness, but all of the water flowing back out of the ocean is real, because that water accumulated over time. This episode is also about how being different shapes how you think and how you act. The Doctor says that all humans are the same, but as we saw in “Blink,” there are many different types of humans. The Doctor says that he and his friends are like everybody else, but they’re not. They’re different from everybody else.
