I am not lone in my opinion that we should stop treating heroes as gods and worshipers of them. I also find the concept of a god as a symbol of strength and morality to be very absurd. And this is not just because, as a rationalist, I consider the concept of God as a symbol to be irrational.
Denying the rationality of each other and projecting our irrational thoughts and emotions on the other side of the world is a very dangerous thing to do. Many people today are suffering and dying because they are just too afraid to realize their irrationality and admit that they are wrong.
There is a reason why I love heroes so much. I do not worship them but I do respect them. I do not think they are perfect but I think they are brave and strong. They are heroes to me because they can not stand being wrong and having to admit that they were wrong.
I think they are heroes that we should all look up to, because they are the people that we need more than anything else in this world.
