    Emily Fields personality type is ISFJ, or Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging. She was born in 1937 and grew up in New York City. She attended Hunter College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 1959. She went on to study at Columbia University for her MS in clinical psychology (1962). Her greatest achievement in the field of psychology came in the late 1960s, when she worked with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, where she worked for two years.

    Fields accepted a visiting lecturer position at Cornell University in 1971, and became an associate professor there in 1979. Fields gave up her position at Cornell for a Washington, D.C., position with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in 1982. Fields retired from the NIMH in 1991, but stayed on as adjunct professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center's School of Medicine until 1993.

    In the early 1970s, Fields was a co-founder of some three dozen anti-bias groups and organizations, including the National Organization for Women, the National Urban League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and others.
