Kantianism personality type is INTP, and the question is what do you think of the following statement: "The only thing people really have in common is that they share a common humanity." -- what do you think of this statement according to your own work?

This was a question that a fellow INTP friend posed to me a while back. I thought about it a long time, and have been mulling it over in my own mind for a while.

First, I should say that I agree with what this person said. People do have a lot in common, and this is true to a large extent. What I disagree with is the idea that this "commonality" is so very important.

Let's put it this way: if we're going to talk about how people are similar, the most important things to know are going to be how people differ, and how opposites can exist in a single person.

For example, take a look at the following two photos:

In person, these two people look completely different. But in photos, they might look very much the same. In fact, they might both be slightly taller than average, or have a similar-looking nose or mouth.

Kantianism is the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher born in Königsberg, Prussia. The term Kantianism or Kantian is sometimes also used to describe contemporary positions in philosophy of mind, epistemology, and ethics.
