Hadfield was an accomplished academic in his younger years, graduating with a degree in physics and political science from the University of Toronto. "I had a science teacher who would talk about astronomy when we went out looking at stars and planets and stuff and it got me started," Hadfield said. "I had a really good teacher and I really enjoyed his classes and I kept up with it through high school and through college."
Hadfield said that his teacher had him take the course "Introduction to Astronomy" — and that's when he decided he wanted to go into astronomy.
"I loved it," he said.
